Overview
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a type of agriculture that connects the local community directly with their food, the people who work to produce it and the land that it is grown on. When you become a member of the Weekly Harvest Cooperative by purchasing a share of a seasons worth of fruits and vegetables grown on our small farm. When you purchase this share in advance of the season you enable us to properly fund and plan our production without the influence of outside financing. By becoming a share holder in the cooperative you are a partnering with us throughout the entire season, we share the risk and we share the rewards. This means that some weeks & seasons you’ll receive more and others you will receive less. Iowa’s small towns have been directly impacted food deserts where fresh, healthy produce is often so far away it is prohibitive. Through the Weekly Harvest Cooperative we hope to give people back their access to good quality local produce and to provide for those in our community.
Becoming a Part of Our Farm
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between our farm and you as our customer. Rather than simply purchasing food, our customers become “members” of Weekly Harvest Cooperative and receive a portion of the farm’s harvest. Our CSA runs for 16 weeks, from June to September. Members are responsible for showing up at the drop-off site (if they purchased local pickup) every other Sunday to pick up your share of freshly harvested produce. If the customer purchases home delivery, deliveries will take place on alternate Sundays. Customers are responsible for being present for home delivery, or being willing to assume risk of the produce being left outside their house. Customers with scheduling conflicts involving deliveries or pick ups may reach out to see if farm pickup might be available.
Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure
We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share every other week. The quantity of produce , however, may vary from week to week due to extreme weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and other members. In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows: If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. Though unlikely, if a large portion of the crops fail we may not be able to deliver any product in some weeks.
Produce Quality
The produce that you receive from our CSA is coming directly from the garden, unwashed, unless there is a label indicating otherwise. Though we do our best to remove any pests from your produce, we also take pride in the fact that we don’t use pesticides. So please understand that the occasional bug or blemish on your produce may be unavoidable.
Communication
Our preferred form of communication will be through Messenger via our Weekly Harvest Cooperative Facebook page. If email would be preferable to messenger, please let us know. Additionally, part of being our partner is providing us with feedback about the produce you receive and if it met your expectations. Though we hope to be accommodating in regards to issues with local pickup times, home delivery will not be available to those who have selected and paid for local pickup. If there is a scheduling conflict with local pickup times, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a possible farm pick up.
